The Ferens Art Gallery first opened its doors in 1927. The local industrialist and MP Rt Hon Thomas Robinson Ferens gifted this purpose-built gallery to the city of Hull, wanting to share his love of art with a wider public.
The Friends of the Ferens organisation was founded in 1961, by the then curator Michael Compton, both to support the gallery and to further encourage the enjoyment of art in Hull and its surrounding area.
We are a registered charity co-ordinated by a board of Trustees with 400 members. We are always looking for new members and ways to help promote and support the Ferens. We are very committed to this exceptional gallery and its very impressive collection.
Your Membership helps to support one of the premier museums of the UK here in our own city. Unlike many provincial museums, entrance to the gallery is free, so the contributions we can make are very much valued.
Some of the advantages you will enjoy are:
Do you want to know how to curate an exhibition? Interpret artworks? Design a marketing campaign? Meet other young creatives?
