Join us at the Ferens for a colourful journey into the imagination and experiences of disabled artist Jason Wilsher-Mills!
Created in response to disabled communities in Hull, Wakefield and Manchester, Jason’s theatrical portraits and sculptures reflect aspects of his personality, memory, and disability. This family friendly exhibition is suitable for all ages and includes Augmented Reality (AR) and interactive experiences.
Jason’s fun, empowering and insightful creations will excite and move you. Through this exhibition you’ll gain a greater understanding of our world and how those with disabilities experience it.
Alongside the exhibition will be an exciting and accessible programme of events and activities for all ages. This includes a talk by Jason in May, baby sensory sessions, storytelling, relaxed openings, workshops delivered by artists, and craft sessions.
The Open Exhibition is our annual celebration of Hull’s incredible artistic talent. Established in 1967, the exhibition is open to everyone – from new and emerging artists to established pros.
It’s an opportunity for artists to display and sell their work. As well as for visitors to get an insight into the thriving art community in the city.
Our selectors then have the difficult challenge of choosing which pieces to include for exhibition.
The exhibition itself takes place later in the year, usually during the summer. During the exhibition, visitors can enjoy hundreds of amazing local artworks, from paintings and photography, to sculpture and ceramics, to video and performance. Many of the works are also for sale – giving you an opportunity to own a unique piece of art for your home, created right here in Hull.
You may have heard of the Ferens Open Exhibition, but did you know we also run a Young Artist Open?
The Young Artist Open is an opportunity for budding artists aged 15 and under to show their work in a major gallery.
In 2024 the Young Artist Open exhibition will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. The exhibition, previously known as the Junior Open, has been held annually at the Ferens Art Gallery since 2004 and celebrates the creative talent of young people in Hull and the surrounding area.
